My Life

Disclaimer by Mel's mom:
This is a fictional, futuristic writing about Mel's life; how she will look back on it in the future... She wrote this in 4th grade.  Creston High School closed after the school year 2012/13.

On July 9, 2002, I was created into this world.  I was due on June 27.  My mom ate lots and lots office cream and other junk food.   I don’t know if that is why I am hungry all the time, but I think so.  It was a bright and early day when I was born Tuesday in a hospital at exactly 7:01 am.  My life has been affected, I think, because I was born 12 days later than I was due.  Anyway, I was pudgy with orange hair and freckles when I was born.  My parents wrote about me in my baby book.  My birth was in the newspaper and other babies that were born in 2002 were in there.  In a section was a spot that said, “July 9” and kids names were listed.  I saw my name in that section by “girls”.  My name, Melody Lynn Stocking, and others were in there.  (I could go on with my birth, but I do not want to.)
In 2006, I had my 4th b-day, b-day means birthday, party.  It was so cool.  I wrote about it in a different story and I typed it up for an assignment.  I was four, obviously, and I had no friends except for my cousins because we were in the middle of July.  I had my b-day party on my birthday that year.  I had lots of fun.  I played games.  I got lots of presents.  It was one of the best days in my life!  Sadly, it ended.  That is why I want to relive that part of my life.
Fourth grade was one of my favorite times in life.  I got to sell candy!  We had jobs and we got a duck if we sold a whole box of candy.  I didn’t like that physical education was every day.  In fourth grade, I played recorder.  I got a lot of belts.  I was in some concerts fourth grade did.  I started fourth grade on September 9, 2011.  I shared a treat for my birthday on my half birthday.  I finished school early because of pink eye and strep throat.
I really loved my high school graduation.  I went to Creston and my sister didn’t want to come.  I went to Creston because I was able to walk to school.  High school was fun for me because every time I brought my library card, I stopped at the library after school.  My high school graduation was at Creston on May 10, 2020.
I started college September 19, 2021.  We had to study a lot.  Test after test after test… too many tests.  Everyone was glad to go home, even the smartest people who were my friend Suzie and me.  We were also roommates.  Sometimes we helped each other with homework.  Suzie is not here now.  She isn’t anywhere to be found except for her coffin.  She had died in a car crash driving home for Christmas.
On Halloween in the year of 2024, my sister got married.  She was 27.  Her friend Lexi couldn’t come because she lost her boyfriend again.  It was a weird wedding.  The reason was my husband was best friends with my sister’s husband.  When the wedding was over, I promised not to get married until I got a job.
That didn’t happen.  I got married 3 years before I got a job (four jobs to be exact).  One of my jobs was a substitute teacher.  On Saturdays and Wednesdays, I spend my day in the lab.  On Sundays and Fridays, I always write.  I published a book.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I go to the mechanic’s shop trying to make a new car.  I take days off to be a substitute.  I read books and sing for fun.
I was at the shop called “Zoey the Mechanic’s Shop” and she said that I could work there.  I got the job to be a scientist on the fourth of July.  How was this?  I used a science formula and made fireworks.  Apparently, some scientists were walking by when this happened.  How I became a writer started like this.  I was writing a report for school and I didn’t notice that when I turned my piece of writing in, I turned it in to an author.  I noticed it when somebody asked me, “What do you want to cover to look like?”  I then explained what happened.  He told me it was very good and it was so good it should be published.  So one day I went to make a series of books and so far so good.  That all happened in the year of 2029.
Five years later I had my fourth and final kid.  He was a boy named Percy Poseidon Olympian Jr.  My triplets were excited when I told them I was going to have a baby.  The triplets were girls, so they didn’t want to take care of a baby boy.  The girls were nine and were named Destiny Hope Olympian, Melody Lynn Olympian Jr., and Harmony Jane Olympian.  That was the order they were born.  They all didn’t want to do that much work, but they did.  I didn’t go to work for over a year because of my kids.  Percy was born on February 11, 2034.  I wished I could go away to San Francisco.
On December 20, 2037, Zoey and I invented the flying car.  Zoey did something wrong and I tried to fix it, but I couldn’t.  We tried and tried and tried when suddenly another customer came into the waiting area.  I told the guy we were working with to leave and if his car broke to come in immediately.  He agreed with a frown and drove away.  While he was driving, he started to lift off of the ground.
I went to call my sister at her restaurant, “Issues” when she called me.  “Was that you?  What happened Mel?”
I replied, “Rosalie, go tell the people at your restaurant to tell their family, friends and neighbors that Zoey from “Zoey the Mechanic’s Shop” and Mel have invented the flying car.”
“Ok!” She said then hung up on me and I think she did what I told her to do because people were driving to the shop.
Then somebody called me and said, “Tell Zoey, your family, your friends, and the whole class you substitute with, their teacher, you and Zoey just became famous!  Tell the teacher it’s like a field trip to San Francisco.”
I almost screamed to tell the truth.  I mean, San Francisco, the place I always wanted to go?  Of course not!
Then I said, “When I’m ready, I’ll call you.  Oh, by the way, how did you get my number?”
“It’s in the phonebook.  It will have to go tomorrow though, just so you know.”
“What will…”  I froze for a moment and then said, “My private jet.  Thank you because… Is it free?  I mean the ride.  Is it?”
“Of course.  Bye.”
“Bye.”
I told Zoey.  I told all of my friends.  I told the people at work.  I told my family.  I told them, “Pack your things.  Be ready in two days.  We are going to San Francisco.  Zoey and I invented the flying car.  Don’t forget to pack your best clothes.  It will be a long trip.  Thank you.  Bye.”

Now I am 41 years old and retired.  It has been ten years since I became famous.  Now I spend my time writing.  My family has supported me throughout the years.  Thank you.
