The Case of the Stolen Presents

Disclaimer by Mel's mom:  Mel wrote this in fifth grade...
BOOM! I woke up immediately. I got up and put on my slippers. It was pitch black inside and outside. I put on my robe that came with my silk and green pajamas that I was wearing. I was walking towards the steps when I ran into my giant and fake elephant that I got as a souvenir from Asia. After running into the elephant, I landed 3 feet away from it and my fuzzy green slippers flew off of my feet into opposite directions. I crawled around to find the and instead I came across a flashlight. I turned it on, found and put on my slippers, and rushed down the steps while avoiding any further obstacles. My mom was outside talking to someone that I knew but I couldn’t remember his name. I went outside and stood quietly to the side of my mother who was dressed in a blank white t-shirt with sweatpants and she had no robe on.
My mom started talking, “Listen Professor. She’s too young and she probably heard the loud BOOM! I should go get her and tell her what’s going on.”
Before I could say a word, Professor Old Man (that’s what I’m calling him) started talking, “You don’t have to, Tanya. Mel is already here.”
I was scared out of my mind. What do I say?
I took in a deep breath and started talking, “I… um… are you… um… well, taking me to school… you know… um… do you, Professor… um… do you Professor I Don’t Know?”
Professor Old Man chuckled, “You know me. It’s Professor Dumbledore, remember? Memory charm on you, I suppose you want to get rid of it.”
I nodded politely, he raised his wand and I remembered everything.
“I need to pack, Professor Dumbledore. I’ll go… now,” I murmured.
I rushed inside, went upstairs, grabbed my wand, and with a flick of it, everything was packed. I soon realized that I needed on more appropriate clothing instead of my pajamas. I quickly got dressed, grabbed my suitcase and owl, a snowy, white, female owl named Snow, and went downstairs to leave with Dumbledore.
“Good-bye Tanya, I mean Step-mom, I mean (exhale) good-bye mom,” I said rather fast.
My mom smiled and whispered, “Good-bye, Mel. I’ll see you next year.”
Professor Dumbledore went into the yard and got my broomstick from the shed. Dumbledore and I got on our brooms and flew towards the Burrow.
I asked the first question, “What was the explosion all about?”
Dumbledore answered, in a gentle tone, as if it was obvious, “Your neighbor saw me flying on a broom and fired a bazooka at me.” He chuckled lightly and then asked, “Mel, did you forget your bazooka?”
I shook my head, pointed at my wand, threw it in the air, caught it, pointed at my wand again, and yelled, “BAZOOKA!”
My wand transformed into a bazooka quickly and then I whispered, “Wand.”
My bazooka turned back into a wand and I put it away.
Someone called me after I did and I answered my cell phone immediately.
The person on the other end asked, “Is your refrigerator running?”
I answered with, “No. It tripped yesterday when it was running. It’s grounded and it’s at the doctor’s right now. We think it’s a broken ankle.”
Their reply was weird, “Oh. Well, a fridge just passed me yelling, ‘Bye-Bye Doctor! I’m running away! On my twisted ankle!’ It’s now in jail and it cried itself to sleep. I’ll take it back to your house, ok?”
After a moment I said, “Ok. Bye.”
I was stunned. How did that random person know that I was telling the truth? I soon realized that they were a wizard and that I was flying in circles in the Burrow’s backyard. I got off of my broom and took my broom, owl, and suitcase inside. I set my things on the floor and took a look at the grandfather clock. This clock showed where all of the Weasley’s were. Right now, all of them were home. I looked at my watch and it was 5 till 8. Mrs. Weasley will get up any minute to wake up Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, Ginny, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Mr. Weasley. While I was waiting for them, I sat on the couch, put on a blanket, got a book from the end table, and read until 8:15. I heard the familiar voice of Mrs. Weasley yelling at her children to get up. I put the book away, put the blanket away, and sat at the table quietly with my items until someone until someone comes down the steps after waking up. When Bill came down, he noticed me admiring the Dictionary. He quickly went upstairs and then it was quiet. Then the Weasleys, Potter, and Granger came down the steps, in a line, youngest to oldest. Everyone went to an assigned seat according to the chairs with names carved at the top. Mrs. Weasley served food and then sat down. Exactly 3 seconds later, everyone became noisy again. I noticed that Harry was standing in the doorway.
He soon texted me, ‘Ice? Remember? Your blood, my scar?’
I was stuck between Fred and George who were yelling at each other as if they were on separate levels of the house. They soon were yelling at Percy who was reading the paper quietly. I lost my temper.
I yelled, “SHUT UP, FRED AND GEORGE! I AM TRYING TO FOCUS!”
I yelled it so loudly that everyone stopped to look at me. Fred and George looked shocked at what I said, Ginny, Hermione, and Ron gave me a look of, ‘Uh-oh,’ Percy and Mr. Weasley shrugged and went back to their newspapers, Bill and Charlie looked stunned that I could yell, Mrs. Weasley looked furious, and Harry buried his head into his hands. I got out of my seat, grabbed my things, and went outside to practice my flying.
Before I left, I said, “Molly, you may be furious, but I am dangerous and ferocious. As for the rest of you, you may join me in a few minutes if you want.”
I felt rude and wanted to apologize, but I had too much on my mind. I had to clear my head and to do that is by setting my stuff in a safe place, scream at the top of my lungs, and fly in circles until people join me.  I was flying in circles for 5 minutes when I was joined by Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron and Harry.  Ginny, Hermione, Mr. Weasley and Mrs. Weasley were watching from a safe distance.  Ron decided to switch with Ginny and Percy decided to quit.
“Let’s play a fair game of girls vs. boys,” Fred suggested.
“Or the girls get out” George suggested.
Ginny and I disagreed to sit out.  We were playing a fair game.  Ginny and I vs. Bill, Charles, Fred, George and Harry.  The game lasted 5 minutes.  I caught the golden snitch.  Harry congratulated me by text message.
WE play another round after another until it was time for dinner.  After dinner, Mrs. Weasley told me to share a story on why Harry and I can’t be too close to each other.
I stated with thinking through it and then I began to speak.  “Well you know how when Voldemort is too close to Harry, Harry’s scar burns, right?  If you do, then sorry.  I’m telling it anyway.  Harry was born on July 1st; I was born on July 9th.  My mom died of joy when I looked straight into her eyes and then I turned my head to my dad who was stunned and them has a heart attack because my mom died.  I was handed to the potters who were and still are my parents’ best friends.
A week ago, before Harry was one, we learned how to talk to each other through our minds.  On Harry’s first birthday, Lord Voldemort came.  Harry was standing in his crib and I was in Lily’s arms.  I saw Lord Voldemort kill James.
Lily said, “Don’t kill Harry or Mel.  I will die for Harry and I know you can’t kill Mel.”  She set me down and I crawled over to Harry’s crib.  I look back just in time to see Voldemort kill Lily.  He picked me up, up put me in my crib, gave me my dino-dog and tried to kill Harry.  The spell hit his forehead, bounced toward me, hit dino-dog and bounced off towards Lord Voldemort and hit him.
But he’s not dead because the spell hit dino-dog.  OI am the reason Lord Voldemort is not dead.  Voldemort can’t touch Harry because of Lily dying for Harry.  Harry’s scar burns when near Lord Voldemort because Lord Voldemort gave him that scar.  Harry and I can’t be too close to each other because of our blood.  Harry has Lily’s blood and I have my uncle’s blood.  My uncle is Tom Marvolo Riddle.  My uncle is Lord Voldemort.
I paused for a moment.  I was waiting for them to call me a monster, tell me to get out and back away.  All they did was pull out their phones and start texting.  I was getting a lot of texts.
The text messages I was getting were “Get a job as a storyteller,” from Fred, George and Mr. Weasley.
Ginny and Hermione texted, “Follow us to our room.”
Mrs. Weasley texted, “You’re sleeping in Ginny’s room with Ginny and Hermione.”
I got a text from Percy, Charlie and Bill saying, “Want to go with u to the Daily Prophet to see if you could get that into the paper?”
I replied with “yes”
Ron texted me, “I guess you have a rough life.”  Harry looked confused and I received a text from him that said “Your forehead, is it burning?”
I stared at him, looked directly in his eyes and nodded.  Everyone was staring at me.
Mrs. Weasley broke the silence.  “Mel touch Harry’s scar with your left hand.  Harry, do the same thing. On the count of three.  One, Two, Three!”
When we touched I felt like I was going to explode and harry looked like his scar was burning.
Hermione yelled “Stop! Mrs. Weasley, they’re obviously in pain!”
I finally stopped hurting.  The pain went away.  We took our hands away and I noticed that we had imprints of lightning bolts on our hands.  When everyone went to bed, I went with Bill, Charlie and Percy to the Daily Prophet.  I left a note for them that told my story.  In the morning, we were rushed by Mrs. Weasley.  We grabbed our Hogwarts materials, broom owl and suitcase and we left to go to Hogwarts.  Mr. Weasley drove us straight to Hogwarts.  Everyone got out and went to get breakfast.  I was half asleep and didn’t listen to Dumbledore’s speech.  By the time the mail got here, most kids were asleep in their food.  Since my owl couldn’t aim I got excused from class to pout my presents and owl in the Gryffindor Common Room.
I set them down and mad sure that someone was watching them.  At lunchtime, my preschool friends Kayley and Katherine came to school.  We hung out before got to the Common room.  I went toward my presents that weren’t there anymore. I told Harry, Hermione and they decided they were the detectives.
“We should tell Myrtle. Maybe she can help,” I suggested.
Everyone else murmured in agreement. At 2:15 we went to get Myrtle. She was obviously upset because she was crying a lot.
I calmed Myrtle down by saying, “its ok. We’re friends. I won’t get mad at you.”
It took me an hour to think of that?
Myrtle stopped crying and said, “Malfoy was near the presents. I’ll scare him into a trap.”
I nodded. Detective Hermione drew out the plans.
Detective Harry said, “Listen, if we want to catch him we need to do it now.
I agreed. While Harry, Hermione, and Myrtle caught Malfoy, Ginny, Ron, and I sat in the Gryffindor Common Room.
I was stumped so I asked, “How can my presents be here if Malfoy was captured?”
Ginny suddenly shushed me, “Do you here that?”
I nodded and realized that Malfoy, Draco is innocent. We went to tell Harry, Hermione, and Myrtle when they came in.
“Draco is chasing someone. We can’t catch him,” Myrtle moaned.
He came in two minutes later with Kayley and Katherine, the real thieves.
“We got you the wrong presents…” Kayley started.
“And we came here to give you the correct ones,” Katherine finished.
They were both crying horribly. I forgave them. We went to the Great Hall for dinner together.
“Good-bye Kayley! Good-bye Katherine! Tell Abby I said hi! I’ll see you in the summertime!” I shouted.
Kayley and Katherine shouted back, “Good-bye Mel!!!”

They went back home to be seen by me in the summertime. I was also in the in the Daily Prophet, the wizard newspaper, as Melody Lynn Stocking and to my friends as Melly. It is The End for now…
